15th or so rows from Stage and Phil assaulted me to the point of making my ears bleed! Good times... Loudest of the shows I attended. The night before was much more fun, as one can imagine!

I was at these New Haven shows and this one rips. As posters below note, the Scarlet > Fire is awesome and The Other One is patiently crafted like fine wine - simply delicious! Sound in the recording gets real funky afterwards, but I remain grateful for this and the entire Archive - we are so lucky to revisit our treasured moments and hear all the other incredible shows!

The highlight here is clearly Other One into Wharf Rat, as usual. Classic textbook Dead.

Oh yah, we always caught the shows in New Haven. Never let us down, the music that is- the cops were awful. The Band twice threatened to not return- big loss of revenue for local businesses-unless the cops stopped busting as many deadheads as they could fit in their jail. After 2nd time cops broke promise to behave, da Band went there no more.

I was at this show, and I still get a great rush of adrenaline when I think of it...there was a door pop that let in hundreds of potentially disappointed Deadheads, and the Dead came on with something about not having the sense to run...how DID they know?

I agree with reviewer below, greatest Scarlet Fire I ever had on tape (still have a good CDR audience). I'll give this one a shot and see if the SBD is worth streaming onto my CDR deck.
The Other One also ranks as the finest I've ever heard (or at least top 3).
Caveats here- The Scarlet Fire is fast pitched compared to many other recordings of this, but the soundboard is right on. What this lacks is the deep bass of the audiences, and there is alot of channel wavy gravy in parts. Still worth getting though, especially if you don't have this show. 3 stars for sound, 5 for the show.= 4 stars I guess.

Where for art though first set....the Lazy lightning was SICK....This building shook both nights...I danced my ass off. New Haven, what a shady city...lots of undesirables lurking in the shadows.....I loved these shows..Nothin but smiles on both nights. Sound is sweet but incomplete.......

Been looking for this one forever. (Note my comments on the 4.22.83 review). Like the other reviwer noted here , I too played this second set over and over and over for many years. I think I actually wore the tape down so thin, it got eatin by my car tape deck. Whenver the post GD show party at some packed (and cheap) hotel room needed a pick me up, New Haven - Second Set was instantly inected into the festivities. It is perpahs one of the best Scralet-Fire's of all time as its total high energy is sweetened by Jerry's on-going travels into little tasty energy groove pockets, and Phil dropping bomb after bomb all aound as as he drives the entire band into the fartherest hemisphere...
Saint-Circ. are also great - but the Other One blows the roof off with its blistering opening jam into a solid full versioned song. Wharf, Thrown', Ashes all good. But after the ScarletFire through The Other One extravaganza, the damage (and I mean that in a good way) had been done.
Recording is great - though not absolutely perfect in places. Still a solid 4.5. But since the 2nd set has been given the impossible 5.5, (actaully better than a 5star rating) - overall Review becomes the 5 Star.
Trsut me,,,this is a must set to get. Thanks Archive for FINALLY getting this smoker to the masses. My only question...What took you guys so long??!!
